Bilateral collaboration on Green Economy and Digital Economy

Singapore and Malaysia signed Frameworks on Cooperation in Digital Economy (DE FoC) and Green Economy (GE FoC) on 30 Jan 2023. These lay the foundation for future bilateral initiatives related to the digital and green economies.

Digital Economy Framework of Cooperation (DE FoC)

Singapore and Malaysia seek to facilitate greater interoperability and collaboration on digital economy issues, unlock new growth opportunities benefitting both countries’ businesses, workers, and communities. The DE FoC could potentially serve as a pathfinder for digital economy cooperation within ASEAN as well. 

These are the areas of cooperation under the DE FoC: 

• Trade Facilitation

• Cross-border Data Flows

• Electronic Payments

• Digital Identities

• Business/Consumer Trust

• Standards

• Investment Promotion and Facilitation in Digitalisation

• Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Digitalisation

• Regulatory and Governance Framework

Green Economy Framework of Cooperation (GE FoC)

Singapore and Malaysia seek to strengthen collaboration to decarbonise our industries and enable businesses and workers to seize opportunities in the green economy.

These are the areas of cooperation under the GE FoC:

• Next Generation Mobility

• Environmental, Social and Governance, and Capacity Development Programme for exporters

• Low-Carbon Solutions 

• Carbon Credits Industry Collaboration 

• Development of New and Renewable Energy Related Technology Standards to Support Domestic and Regional Decarbonisation
