WTO Joint Statement Initiative on Electronic Commerce (JSI on E-Commerce)
Learn about Singapore’s co-convenorship of the WTO JSI on E-Commerce, which develops the first-ever set of global digital trade rules for inclusive e-commerce participation.
What is the JSI on E-Commerce?

With digital trade experiencing rapid growth, there is a pressing need for a global framework to help unlock the benefits of the digital economy for our businesses and people. At the World Trade Organization (WTO), Singapore, alongside Japan and Australia, co‑convenes the JSI on Electronic Commerce (JSI), a plurilateral initiative aimed at developing the first-ever set of global rules on digital trade.
In 2024, JSI participants concluded the E-Commerce Agreement after five years of negotiations. The benefits of the Agreement cover four areas: (i) digital trade facilitation; (ii) business and consumer trust; (iii) open digital environment; and (iv) inclusive growth of e-commerce.
