Japan and Singapore launch second review of the Japan-Singapore New-Age Economic Partnership Agreement (JSEPA)

JAPAN AND SINGAPORE LAUNCH SECOND REVIEW OF THE JAPAN-SINGAPORE NEW-AGE ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT (JSEPA)

The Supervisory Committee for the Japan-Singapore New-Age Economic Partnership Agreement (JSEPA) successfully launched the second review of the JSEPA. Co-chaired by Mr Loh Wai Keong, Deputy Secretary (Trade), Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore, and Mr Kaoru Ishikawa, Director-General, Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, the Supervisory Committee met on 27 – 28 Apr 06 in Tokyo, Japan.

The Supervisory Committee had a fruitful meeting under the longstanding and close economic partnership between Singapore and Japan. It agreed on the scope of the review, which would include, inter alia: (i) expanding the product coverage; (ii) improving the rules of origin; and (iii) enhancing financial services commitments. Both sides agreed to complete the Review expeditiously so as to bring increased benefits to the business communities of both countries as soon as possible.
