The ES scholarship was launched in 2011 by MTI to attract talented students to become public sector economists. It is tenable for local and overseas undergraduate studies in Economics, and follows the terms and conditions of the Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarships.

As an ES scholar, you will be plugged into the community of ES officers throughout your studies, and have the opportunity to undergo internships in MTI and relevant ministries. You may also be sponsored for a Master's degree immediately upon graduation.

Scholarship Details

Course of study
  •  The scholarship is for pre-tertiary students who are keen to pursue their undergraduate studies in Economics, as well undergraduates who are currently pursuing a double degree or major in Economics / Econometrics.
  • A second major or degree in related disciplines such as Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, and Statistics may also be considered.

Place of study

  •  Local and overseas universities.

Terms of scholarship

  • Tuition fees and other approved charges
  • Maintenance and other allowances
  • Return economy class airfare
  • Possible sponsorship of Master’s degree 

Length of bond

  • 4 years for local studies; or
  • 6 years for overseas studies 

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates should:
    • Be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore citizenship
    • Possess either GCE ‘A’ levels (attempted at least 11 academic units), International Baccalaureate or NUS High School Diploma
    • Have good co-curricular activities (CCA) records
    • Have strong leadership qualities
  • Mid-Term scholarship applicants must also:
    • Have completed at least one semester of your undergraduate studies and not in your final year of studies
    • Possess good university academic results and is expected to attain a Second-Class Upper Honours degree.
  • Have a keen interest in the application of Economics to the analysis of public policies
