Question
Mr. Chua Kheng Wee Louis: To ask the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) whether the Government will consider legislation for ‘right to repair’ for electronic devices to ensure that manufacturers provide practical means for owners to repair their devices; and (b) if not, why.
Written Answer by Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong
1. “Right-to-repair” is a nascent issue and the aim and scope of such a policy differ across countries. Right-to-repair requirements may also affect the pricing of such electronic devices. The Government is monitoring the global discussions to help us assess if a similar legislation is suitable for Singapore.
