Mr Mark Lee: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry for the retail trade and food and beverage services sectors from 2019 to 2024, whether the Government has data on (a) the median and interquartile ranges of rental costs as a share of total business costs for each year; and (b) the proportion of firms which experienced rental increases exceeding (i)10% (ii) 20% and (iii) 30% upon lease renewal during this period.
Written Answer by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong
1. Between 2019 and 2024, rental costs as a share of total business costs declined from 26% to 17% for the food and beverage services sector, and from 30% to 26% for the retail trade sector. Data on (a) the median and interquartile ranges of rental cost as a share of total business costs, and (b) the proportion of firms which experienced rental increases exceeding 10%, 20% and 30% upon lease renewal over this period are not available.
