Written PQ on effect of extension of liquor trading hours in Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area
8 July 2026
Question:
Mr Vikram Nair: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry (a) whether the extension of liquor trading hours in the Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area in the past one year has resulted in improved business for business owners; (b) whether there has been an increase in incidents of disorderly conduct; and (c) whether there are plans to ease liquor licensing rules further.
Written Answer by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong
1. The one-year pilot extension of liquor trading hours has seen strong interest from businesses. As of 31 May 2026, the Police have approved 88 applications for the extension of liquor trading hours from public entertainment outlets in these areas.
2. Local stakeholders have also responded positively, and indicated that the pilot has supported their efforts to enhance vibrancy in Boat Quay and Clarke Quay. The law-and-order situation in the area has remained stable thus far. We will continue to monitor reception from the public as well as responses from the industry and local stakeholders, and review the impact of the pilot, including whether to implement the extension of liquor trading hours on a longer-term basis.
