Speech by Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu at Greater Sentosa Master Plan Exhibition
3 July 2026
Mr Edmund Koh, Chairman, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC),
Ms Thien Kwee Eng, Chief Executive Officer, SDC,
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Introduction
1. Good morning. I am delighted to be at the launch of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan (GSMP), “Your Island, Reimagined” exhibition.
2. Sentosa holds a special place in the hearts of Singaporeans. Many of us have fond memories here – family outings at the beach, school trips, celebrations with loved ones. Across generations, Sentosa has been our playground, our getaway, our shared backyard.
3. As tourism demand continues to grow, Singapore must continue to refresh our experiences and strengthen our destination appeal. Today, we are not just celebrating what Sentosa is. We are reimagining what it can be for decades ahead – an island transformed, connected, and sustained.
Your Island, Transformed
4. The GSMP will redefine Greater Sentosa as our island playground – bolder, livelier, and more exciting than ever before.
5. I am excited by the new icons that await us like the Imbiah Canopy, perched atop Mount Imbiah, offering breathtaking panoramic views across the island. There are also plans to enhance our experiences, including an experiential dining concept, alongside new attractions and sheltered event spaces.
6. And we are only just getting started. We are working with industry partners to explore a wide range of experiences and attractions for Brani West, transforming it into one of the region’s most exciting leisure destinations.
Your Island, Connected
7. The GSMP will also bring Sentosa closer to us – with better connections and more seamless ways to explore all that the island has to offer.
8. The Imbiah Lookout Walk – expected to be ready from the early 2030s – will be a new sheltered and elevated forest canopy walk linking Sensoryscape to Imbiah Lookout. It will provide visitors comfortable and accessible pedestrian routes, making it easier for families and visitors of all ages to enjoy the island and surrounding trails.
9. I also look forward to new nature-based attractions that will bring visitors closer to Mount Imbiah’s rich natural environment, with heritage trails envisioned to eventually connect Greater Sentosa to the Southern Ridges.
Your Island, Sustained
10. As we build and grow, we remain deeply committed to doing so responsibly, in line with Singapore’s broader sustainability goals.
11. Take the Sensorium for example – it is intended to be a new beachfront icon featuring shaded green spaces designed to improve thermal comfort, blending vibrancy with sustainability.
12. Sentosa's natural environment and heritage are part of what makes it special.
a. That is why SDC will conduct comprehensive environmental studies, put in place appropriate mitigation measures, and pay homage to the island's rich heritage.
b. We will continue to engage nature groups and the public throughout this journey.
13. We are also committed to protecting our coastline. As a low-lying coastal city, sea level rise poses an existential threat to us. Coastal protection measures take years — sometimes decades — to plan and deliver, and we must prepare early, invest early, and act early.
a. We are conducting site-specific studies for Sentosa, which covers approximately 16km of the coastline.
b. Coastal protection measures will be dovetailed with our upcoming development plans for Sentosa, anchoring our position as a leisure and tourism destination.
14. Sustainable development does not constrain our ambitions. It is the foundation that makes them possible.
Conclusion
15. GSMP is our boldest vision yet – a world-class destination that Singaporeans can truly call our own. A place where we can find new adventures, reconnect with nature, and create new memories with family and friends.
16. Today’s launch of the exhibition is just the beginning. In the months ahead, this exhibition will travel across Singapore. We want to hear your ideas, your hopes, and your vision – because the best version of this island is one we shape together.
17. Thank you.
