Speech by Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling at the Sustainability Alliance Summit
21 May 2026
Good afternoon, everyone. I am delighted to join you here at the Sustainability Alliance Summit.
The Sustainability Alliance was officially launched in October 2024, when 18 Trade Associations came together on a shared mission to help member companies and SMEs progress in their sustainability journeys.
Changing Business Environment
Today, the world’s landscape is quite different. The rise of geopolitical tensions and the Middle East crisis have disrupted global shipping routes and pushed up energy costs. For many businesses, and especially our SMEs, these pressures are posing challenges to managing costs and supply chains.
We understand the emerging difficulties, and I assure you that the Government is committed to journeying with you through this trying period.
Last month, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, Jeffrey Siow announced in Parliament that the Government is providing close to $1 billion in additional support to help Singaporeans and businesses manage these cost pressures.
For instance, the Energy Efficiency Grant (Base Tier) for businesses will be expanded to cover all sectors and is now extended till 31 March 2028. Businesses now have a longer runway to invest in energy-efficient equipment.
To help alleviate cashflow concerns for businesses, we have also recently enhanced the Corporate Income Tax rebate from 40% to 50%, and we are raising the minimum benefit for a company with at least one local employee from $1,500 to $2,000.
We’ve heard the feedback and views of TACs, many of whom are with us today. Thank you for representing your members and surfacing their concerns.
Today, the Alliance welcomes another 3 new Trade Association members, bringing the total to 21 members. Congratulations, and a very warm welcome to all of you! We will continue to work closely with you to support our enterprises through the times ahead.
Staying the Course
You’ve heard the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going”. With rising costs and business uncertainty, it can be tempting to put sustainability on the back burner. Don’t give up. There are many reasons to stay the course.
Investing in energy efficiency and low-carbon practices is not just good for the environment; it makes practical business sense. It can help to reduce costs, boost operations, and strengthen business resilience.
Green 100 Movement
The Government remains committed to supporting our businesses and SMEs on their sustainability journey. The Alliance’s growing membership reflects the positive momentum around sustainability. Furthermore, earlier this morning at the Singapore Climate Transition Forum, Mr Ravi Menon, Singapore’s Ambassador for Climate Action, launched the Green 100 Movement and the Technical Reference 149 Specification for organisations to progress towards environment sustainability excellence.
The Green 100 Movement will bring together enterprises, SMEs, and solution providers to achieve their sustainability goals, strengthen supply chain transparency, and capture green opportunities. It aims to make it easier and more accessible for businesses, especially SMEs, to advance in their green transformation.
Businesses can start their sustainability journeys with the new Green 100 Essential Badge, which makes it easy to capture your company’s ESG data, improve performance and unlock new benefits.
Using the company’s CorpPass, enterprises can log in to the Green100.sg website and, within minutes, receive a free basic emissions report on the company.
Once onboarding to the platform is complete, your company will be automatically listed on the Singapore Green Supplier Registry, and you can connect with the Green 100 Supplier Network to tap into green business opportunities.
This service is free of charge for SMEs and all enterprises. I encourage all companies to explore this, and TACs, do spread this word to your members.
Outreach and Engagement by Trade Associations
The Sustainability Alliance will play an important outreach and engagement role in the Green 100Movement.
With its 21 Trade Association members, the Alliance will work with partners, such as Gprnt and the Singapore Environment Council, to engage SMEs and companies across different sectors and help them get started on their Green 100 journey and also discover fresh business opportunities in the green economy.
The Alliance has made steady progress since its launch less than two years ago. Today's milestone shows what our Trade Associations can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose. I look forward to seeing the Alliance grow from strength to strength, and playing a vital role in shaping Singapore's green economy.
I wish everyone a fruitful time at the Summit today. Thank you.
