Remarks by SMS Low Yen Ling at WingsOverAsia New Hangar Groundbreaking Ceremony
4 February 2026
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
1. Good afternoon. I am delighted to join you to celebrate the groundbreaking of WingsOverAsia’s new facility for business aircraft maintenance, repair and innovation in Seletar Aerospace Park.
2. This latest expansion stems from WingsOverAsia’s partnership with MJets Limited, a full-service business aircraft provider from Thailand.
WingsOverAsia’s Next Chapter of Growth
3. Since 2009, WingsOverAsia has grown from a 3-person startup into a leading Singapore business aviation provider offering aircraft management, maintenance, repair, flight training, and hospitality. Today, they are a 55-strong team, of whom around 70% are local, constantly innovating and expand its offerings to the business aviation community.
4. This new facility is a prime example of the company’s development, marking its fresh chapter of growth.
a. When operational by 2027, this facility will enable WingsOverAsia to expand its capabilities and capacity to serve new and larger aircraft platforms such as the Gulfstream G700 or even larger business jets like the Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets.
b. WingsOverAsia and MJets will also establish an innovation team to develop differentiated solutions ranging from software development for autonomous landing of business jets, to advanced connectivity solutions for cabin crew and passengers.
5. The new facility is expected to create more than 50 jobs in areas such as aircraft management, maintenance, repair, design, engineering and administration. I am also glad to hear that the company is investing significantly in providing opportunities for Singaporeans, through in-house employee upskilling programmes, internships, educational partnerships and overseas attachments.
a. Mr Mahathir Bin Mohd Defahri, is a good example of a homegrown talent who has benefitted from the company’s upskilling and cross-training opportunities with MJets. Since joining WingsOverAsia in 2018, Mahathir has progressed rapidly from a ground handling ramp agent with no airfield experience to being a flight operations manager. In early 2025, he made a significant mid-career switch from operations to a commercial role responsible for driving regional sales. He undertook a year-long on-the-job training with MJets’ Thailand commercial team. This cross-border exposure enabled him to lead his team to achieve more than 20% growth in contract and client acquisition activities.
6. Well done, WingsOverAsia and MJets, for investing in your people. Your global mindset has also contributed to your growth.
Strengthening Singapore’s Position as Southeast Asia’s Business Aviation Hub
7. Our business aviation sector continues to be a vital enabler for Singapore’s status as a leading business, financial and lifestyle destination. It enhances connectivity for high-value business travellers and facilitates both business connections and investments, thereby benefiting our broader tourism industry and economy.
8. WingsOverAsia’s new facility will support Singapore’s position as a leading regional business aviation hub, holding one of the largest fleets of business aircraft in Southeast Asia.
Conclusion
9. We remain committed in strengthening our aviation ecosystem, such as through JTC’s development of the Seletar Aerospace Park, to enable partners like WingsOverAsia and MJets to thrive in Singapore as they meet the increasing demand for business aviation.
10. I trust the partnership between WingsOverAsia and MJets will spur more businesses in the region to spread their wings from Singapore to advance their growth.
11. Once again, congratulations on the groundbreaking of your new facility. I wish WingsOverAsia and your partners every success and look forward to your soaring success in the years ahead. Thank you.
