MINISTER S ISWARAN TO ATTEND 31st ASEAN MINISTERS ON ENERGY MEETING (AMEM) IN BALI, INDONESIA, 25 SEPTEMBER 2013
1. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry Mr S Iswaran will attend the 31st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Bali, Indonesia, on 25 September 2013.
2. In line with the 2013 theme “Energy Sustainability for ASEAN Prosperity” and acknowledging the impact of global developments on energy markets in the region, the 31st AMEM will focus on further strengthening energy cooperation to ensure reliable and sustainable energy supply for ASEAN. The Ministers will reaffirm their commitment to accelerate progress on key energy infrastructure projects, namely the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline (TAGP) and ASEAN Power Grid (APG). As nuclear energy remains a long-term option to meet the region’s growing needs, the Ministers will continue their discussions on efforts to build capacity and to enhance nuclear safety in the region, in collaboration with international partners. The Ministers will also review the progress of other programme areas under the ASEAN Plan of Action on Energy Cooperation 2010-2015.
