Natural Gas
Singapore relies on natural gas for 95% of our power generation needs. Natural gas will remain a key energy source for Singapore even as other low-carbon energy sources scale.
About Natural Gas
Singapore has been using natural gas, the cleanest burning fuel, since the early 2000s. Currently, around 95% of Singapore’s electricity is generated using imported natural gas.
Natural gas will remain a key energy source even as we scale up the adoption of other low-carbon energy sources. It will continue to play an important role in maintaining our energy security.
SLNG
The Singapore LNG (SLNG) Terminal, developed and operated by SLNG Corporation, has been in operation since May 2013. The terminal allows Singapore to import liquified natural gas (LNG) from all over the world. It now operates with two jetties, four storage tanks and a peak send-out capacity of around 11 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
To meet Singapore’s future gas demand, SLNG Corporation is developing a second LNG terminal. The terminal will be located offshore at Jurong Port, using a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel that has a regasification capacity of 5 mtpa.
GasCo
GasCo was established in April 2025 to centralise the procurement and supply of natural gas to the power sector in Singapore.
GasCo will procure natural gas sources from diverse sources as well as enter into longer term gas contracts to provide stable supply and prices.
