Traditional geothermal technologies require hot permeable reservoirs located relatively close to the surface. Progress in technologies such as the Advance Geothermal Systems has opened up the possibility of quality geothermal resources at greater depths.

In 2024, a nationwide non-invasive geophysical study has been commenced to assess Singapore’s deep geothermal resource potential for power generation.
