Written reply to PQ on overseas travel and tourist arrivals

Question

Mr Seah Kian Peng
: To ask the Minister for Trade and Industry in the last three years (a) what is the annual number of Singaporeans travelling overseas and whether the trend is likely to increase; (b) what is the average number of days spent overseas by Singaporeans; and (c) what is the annual number of tourist arrivals to Singapore and what is their average stay.

Written reply (to be attributed to Minister for Trade & Industry Mr Chan Chun Sing)

1. In 2019, Singaporeans made about 24.9 million overseas trips. Over the last five years, the number of overseas trips has shown a gradual increase of about 0.2% per annum. We do not have data on the average number of days Singaporeans spent overseas.

2. Over the last five years, tourist arrivals grew at an average rate of almost 5% per annum, to more than 19 million tourists in 2019. Their average length of stay is 3.4 nights.
